The Internet site inhabited by 600 thousand people already counts with more than 30 thousand internauts in Latin America and Spain. One of the main problems for these users is that most of the information is in English and the currency that circulates dents like the dollar, which causes that the program to become very expensive for many navigators.

The Spanish-speaking community in Internet sent itself to the conquest of “Second Life”, a virtual world that until recently was reserved almost exclusively to english speaking users.

The internauts of Latin America and Spain who take a walk in “Second Life” began to be numerous by mid 2006, but tended “to disperse between the different sectors of the market, like sex, action games or cultural manifestations”, explain Marcos Chagas, person in charge of the site  infosegundavida,” with its head quarters in Buenos Aires and dedicated to orient and congregate the Spanish-speaking community than is taking terrain in this virtual world.

In order to participate in the online simulation, the users must initiate a “second life”. This is obtained by creating a digital version of themselves, called to avatar. Through manipulation of design tools, one can modify their appearance while interacting in real time with all citizens.

The main problem that presents “Second Life” for Hispanic users is that the great majority of information that circulates is in English. “The language supposes a barrier, since it does not allow that the program to be sufficiently tempting”, admits Chagas.

Another problem for the Latin American users is the fact that Linden, the currency that circulates between the pockets of Avatars, quotes with respect to the dollar, making “Second Life” “an expensive” program for many of the internauts.

Although it is impossible to tell how many thousands of Spanish-speaking users hide behind their avatars, about 30,000 are subscribed to “infosegundavida”, where they expose and share their experiences in “Second Life”.

The greater numbers of avatars in
Latin America are concentrated in Brazil, where there has been a continuous “permeability to the new features of Internet.” Their users “have even colonized” an island in “Second run Life” under their own rules, counts Chagas.

The program harvests an increasing success in Argentina, Spain, Chile and Mexico, although Spanish-speaking followers are numerous in the United States, where Second Life was born.

Second Life is a very interesting phenomenon
written by Londres, febrero 05, 2008
I had a conversation with somebody the other day, I said to them; "wouldn't it be great to have an implant in your brain so that you could experience other places, world s and experiences as though you were really there?". She responded "I think that is not a good idea, people would start living in an imaginary world and would probably preffer it. This would be completely unproductive for the world".

"How about things such as second life?" I replied. There was no answer...

Brazilian Buddy Erlon Obviate

I am excited about all the sub-cultures that share the (Linden) Lab culture within Second Life.
I am impressed with the Brazilians I have met so far...it's nice sharing this "culture" with them.
Here is an offbeat encounter that I think says it all, when I first came across a Brazilian on Second Life, and we shared an "Australian" occurrence: http://mindpractice.blogspot.com/2006/12/second-lifegreen-swamp-my-property-has.html

La verdad es que estoy muy contento con la cantidad de usuarios de habla española; se ve que cada vez hay más personas que se interesan en éste juego, que a mi entender está siendo todo un fenómeno revolucionario por decirlo de alguna manera.
Abrazos: Martín
